The Real Daisy!
I don't want my illnesses and challenges to define me and I want you to know who I am underneath all of that! Before my strokes, I was a professional singer and actor with a deep love for the arts. Theatre has always been a huge part of my life—I could happily spend hours watching a Shakespeare play or geeking out over a seven-hour production like The Inheritance. My favorite actress and playwright is Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve), and the most expensive ticket I ever bought was to see her one-woman show. Her humor and relatability captivate me every time. As for musicals, I can never quite choose a favorite, but Sweeney Todd, Next to Normal, Follies, and Cabaret are top contenders. My favorite composer? Stephen Sondheim. And when it comes to musicians, P!NK’s concerts are in a league of their own—her performances are unmatched. Beyond the stage, I have a love for the great outdoors. I’ve always been happiest in nature, finding peace in camping, hiking, and exploring new places. Before my strokes, I volunteered with the Scouts, leading young people on outdoor adventures like hiking, abseiling, and climbing. Even now, being outside brings me joy, and I’m grateful for my wheelchair, which enables me to continue exploring the natural world. My wheelchair is specially adapted for both indoor and outdoor use, allowing me to navigate fields and woodlands as well as social settings. One of its standout features is its ability to raise me to standing height, which makes it easier to engage with others and feel included. Independence is incredibly important to me, and this chair gives me the freedom to go on long walks and participate in life as fully as possible. |
I’m passionate about working with young people and have dedicated much of my life to supporting SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) children and their families. I’ve also worked with schools to provide mental health training for both students and teachers. Inclusion and kindness have always been at the heart of what I do, and I pride myself on making friends wherever I go. I’ve been told I’m too trusting, but I’d rather go through life looking for the good in people than expecting the bad.
At my core, I’m someone who loves connecting with others, but I’m equally comfortable in my own company. I’m outgoing, curious, and always ready for an adventure—whether that’s exploring the outdoors, diving into a play, or simply striking up a conversation with someone new. |
